How to Draw a Frog: A Step-by-Step Guide

– Eraser to remove mistakes

Step 1: Draw an irregular oval

Draw an oval.

Start by drawing an irregular oval shape for the head.

Step 2: Draw a triangle

Draw a triangle for the body.

Draw an upside-down triangle with rounded edges and corners for the frog’s body.

Step 3: Draw the leg

Draw a G for the upper leg.

Draw a “G” for the upper leg.

Step 4: Draw the lower leg

Draw the lower leg.

Draw a rounded edge triangle for the lower leg.

Step 5: Draw the toe

Draw the toe.

Draw a rectangle for the toe. The other toes will be hidden.

Step 6: Draw the arm

Draw the arm.

Draw a long skinny oval for the arm.

Step 7: Draw the fingers

Draw the fingers.

Draw three triangles for the fingers.

Draw the lip.

Draw two curved lines in the middle of the face starting from the left edge of the irregular oval and ending your line about 3/4 the way through the middle.

Step 12: Connect the head to the body

Connect the head to the body.

Draw a line from the bottom of the head to the body to connect the head to the body.

Step 13: Draw the nose and stripe pattern

Draw a circle for the nose and his stripe next to the arm.

Draw a dot for the nostril and a zig-zag line for his chest stripe and connect that to his arm starting from the mouth.

Step 14: Cleanup sketch and darken the eye

Cleanup the sketch and draw highlights in the eye.

Now clean up the sketch. Erase all the guidelines used for the initial head and body. We also darkened the eyeball and added two highlights to the eye

Step 15: Add detail

Add detail.

Add two curvy lines to the upper stomach region of the frog’s body. Also, add a line that goes across the leg area for his stripe pattern. Erase part of the frog’s head where the two eyes are. Erase part of the bottom of the eye also.

Step 16: Add pattern

Add pattern to the face and stomach.

Add random spots on the head and body. make sure the pattern is uniform together.

Step 17: Stipple the shadow

Stipple the shadow by adding a lot of dots to areas where there is shading.

Using your pencil, add a lot of dots in areas where it’s shaded. Alternatively, you could just smudge your shading or use cross-hatching. Darken the bottom of the belly as well.
